XANES and Mg isotopic analyses of spinels in Ca-Al-rich inclusions: Evidence for formation under oxidizing conditions

چکیده
Ti valence measurements in MgAl2O4 spinel from calcium-aluminum-rich inclusions (CAIs) by X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy show that many spinels have predominantly tetravalent Ti, regardless of host phases. The average spinel in Allende type B1 inclusion TS34 has 87% Ti. Most spinels in fluffy type A (FTA) inclusions also have high Ti valence. In contrast, the rims of some spinels in TS34 and spinel grain cores in two Vigarano type B inclusions have larger amounts of trivalent titanium. Spinels from TS34 have approximately equal amounts of divalent and trivalent vanadium. Based on experiments conducted on CAI-like compositions over a range of redox conditions, both clinopyroxene and spinel should be Ti-rich if they equilibrated with CAI liquids under near-solar oxygen fugacities. In igneous inclusions, the seeming paradox of high-valence spinels coexisting with low-valence clinopyroxene can be explained either by transient oxidizing conditions accompanying low-pressure evaporation or by equilibration of spinel with relict Ti-rich phases (e.g., perovskite) prior to or during melting. Ion probe analyses of large spinel grains in TS34 show that they are enriched in heavy Mg, with an average DMg of 4.25 0.028&, consistent with formation of the spinel from an evaporating liquid. DMg shows small, but significant, variation, both within individual spinels and between spinel and adjacent melilite hosts. The DMg data are most simply explained by the low-pressure evaporation model, but this model has difficulty explaining the high Ti concentrations in spinel.

Al-Mg systematics of CAis, POI, and ferromagnesian chondrules from Ningqiang
We have made aluminum-magnesium isotopic measurements on 4 melilite-bearing calcium-aluminum-rich inclusions (CAis), plagioclase-olivine inclusion (POI), and 2 ferromagnesian chondrules from the ingqiang carbonaceous chondrite. All of the CAJs measured contain clear evidence for radiogenic 26Mg* from the decay of26AI (r = 1.05 Ma). A lthough the low AI/Mg ratios of the melilites introduce large...
متن کاملRESOLVED TIME DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CALCIUM-ALUMINUM-RICH INCLUSIONS AND THEIR WARK LOVERING RIMS INFERRED FROM Al-Mg CHRONOLOGY OF TWO INCLUSIONS FROM A CV3 CARBONACEOUS CHONDRITE
Introduction: The refractory Calcium-Aluminumrich Inclusions (CAIs) preserve petrographic and geochemical records of the earliest events that shaped our Solar System. Absolute high-resolution Pb-Pb dating of CAIs has revealed them to be the oldest solids in the Solar System [1-4]. Another useful high-resolution relative dating technique is the Al-Mg short-lived chronometer which has been used e...

The Qopi bauxitic horizon is located west of Miandoab, in West-Azarbaidjan province, NW of Iran. It lies along the boundary of Ruteh (middle-upper Permian) and Elika (lower Triassic) Formations. This horizon includes four distinct lithologic facies such as (1) bauxitic iron ore, (2) ferruginous bauxite, (3) Fe-rich bauxite, and (4) Fe-rich clayey bauxite. Microscopic examinations showed variou...
متن کاملAl-mg Dating of Ca-al-rich Inclusions in Acfer 094 Chondrite
Introduction: Acfer 094 is one of the most primitive chondrites, which appears to have escaped thermal metamorphism above 300°C [1] and can potentially provide important clues to primary, undisturbed by parent body processes, abundances of short-lived ra-dionuclides in its components. Krot et al. [2] have recently described mineralogy and petrography of the Al-rich chondrules and refractory inc...
متن کاملCharacterizing Tourmaline in Metapelitic Schists from The Gasht Area, North Iran and Boron Source in Metamorphic Fluids
Metapelitic rocks in the Gasht area include micaschist, kyanite schist, andalusite schist, garnet schist, staurolite schist, cordierite schist and sillimanite schist. Tourmaline occurs as accessory mineral in all of these rock types. These schists are metamorphosed regionally and are affected by contact metamorpism subsequently. Based on the textural relations and the fact that CaO and TiO2 con...
